CTRL+R rocks your console!

If you are using a Linux/UNIX/MySQL console, use CTRL+R to speed up your work. It is very useful, as it enables you to do a reverse search through all your previous commands. Stop trying to remember every single command you enter, and start using CTRL+R!

I find that this shortcut is a lifesaver for me (my memory sometimes sucks)

Even people with good memory might find it useful, instead of typing the whole command one more time, instead of looking for the command with the up and down arrows, instead of copy/pasting the command from a note:

  1. Fire up your console
  2. Start typing commands
  3. Press CTRL+R
  4. Start typing one of the previous commands
  5. Find a previous command and press enter!
  6. There you go…

Have fun!
