unplugged vacations. yeah, right..

I was on vacation last week, although it really didn’t feel like that at all. There wasn’t a single day where I felt like I was entirely unplugged. And if I’m not unplugged, I’m not entirely on vacations. So, next time I’ll take vacations somewhere where I can’t get emails, get on my IM, program or think about work. Is there such a place in the world?

In this hyperconnected world, I think one must try very hard to find such a place. For instance, I’d have to exclude every major city in the world. Any big city will have cheap/free internet cafés. Well, actually even small towns will have one café, hotel, hostel with internet access. I guess the only solution is not to take my macbook around? After all, with it, I can have my ‘office’ anywhere.

That’s it. Next time I won’t take my macbook with me. That way I will be forced to use some shitty computer/pc with some lousy internet connection. And no one likes that. And if there happens to be a life or death emergency, I’ll make sure to leave my macbook to one of my partners.

Even though I couldn’t get ‘unplugged’ for an entire week, the good news is that I got to relax a little (visit some museums and lots of sleep) and I found a nice place to live in Brooklyn (with a beautiful view of Prospect Park!)
